Candlelight studio

At the latest Candlelight session at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's studio, we had musician Ed Couture pose with his blue trombone.  Although he was not playing, the jazzy spirit came through.

Smith Rock

I really enjoyed my day as an artist a day at Muse Art + Design painting Smith Rock from photos and previous small studies.  It went so well, I decided to do another one, almost complete!  Both are on 16" x 20" gallery wrapped canvas, painted in acrylic.  The upper photo shows the first painting in progress at the store, then finished.  All of the art work done in the store during April will be auctioned to benefit School House Supplies at the reception on May 22.  All bids start at $75.  Check out the blog at anartistaday.com.

Smith Rock

These are two small studies of Smith Rock, from a photo by Carrie Ward.  I'll use them as reference to paint a 16" x 20" canvas tomorrow, April 19 at Muse Art + Design as part of "an artist a day".  Every day during April, an artist works in front of their store window and the finished paintings are auctioned to benefit School House Supplies.  For more information, see anartistaday.com.  Or come by after noon to watch me paint!

There will be a paint out at Smith Rock in Terrebonne, Central Oregon, in June.  I plan to be there with my easel and hiking shoes!

Portraits

Rico, our model at Studio 30, seemed to bring the color and warmth of the West Indies to us at Studio 30, brightening the Portland Spring day.  I did two acrylic studies, one with the tropical influence in the background, the second one simpler, but with more of a relaxed smile.

Plein Air

The first plein air painting of the Spring!  It was a warm, clear day on Sauvie Island with crisp white snowy mountains against the blue sky.  I painted Mt. St. Helen looking through the row of pink blooming peach trees on a 14" x 18" canvas.
