Monotypes

 Dairy Creek
Cat in the Window (first print)
Cat in the Window (color added)
In early December, I attended a monotype demonstration by artist Wliiiam Park, followed by a workshop and exhibition at OSA (Oregon Society of Artists).  Materials were provided by Gamblin Paints, there was
paper, a press and everything needed to experiment in this medium, new for me.  Dairy Creek was done in a two stage process.  First the image was put down on plexiglass in black sticky ink, then rubbed and scraped away to reveal the white areas.  A second layer of color was put down on top after running through the press.  I used my favorites thalo blue and green.  The cat in the window shows the first stage in black and white.  Later I added a bit of red and yellow to suggest the lights outside.  It is now the property of the office manager at OSA, hope she enjoys it!

Marina

On a sunny day a few weeks ago I went to the South Waterfront River Place Marina to sketch and photograph boats, later painted from one of the photos that included the Hawthorne Bridge, purple flowers.  The 16 x 20 acrylic painting, "Marina", will be part of the Great Nautical Art Show at the Oregon Society of Artists and Oregon Maritime Museum.  Receptions will be at OSA Sunday May 13, 1-4 pm, and at the Museum Sternwheeler Sunday May 6, 1-4 pm.

Almost Spring

"Spring Flow" is a departure for me in two ways: it's vertical and it's abstract, although based
loosely on some of the rocks and waterfalls I've painted. It's almost a landscape, with the feel of water. Also, it's a paint-over on top of a previous painting that is now gone from existence except for texture and bits of color peeking through.

"Spring Gorge" painted last year at Rooster Rock State Park on the Columbia River when the water was high from Spring rains. This 16" x 20" painting is on view at Oregon Society of Artists.

Small Treasures

The November Gallery Show of the Oregon Society of Artists is called "Small Treasures" consisting of 6"x 6" panels arranged vertically, four for each artist. I've completed 4, working on a 5th as a last minute maybe substitute, since they're small they get done fast! My theme is "reflections" in water, based on some of the places I've visited lately: Benson Lake on the Columbia Gorge, the creek at Reed College, the pond at Laurelhurst park. The show opens on Halloween, Sunday October 31, 1-4:00pm, and closes December 3. All will be priced reasonably for holiday gifting!

Also this month I will have one 10" square landscape painting on view at Muse Art downtown Portland at 10th & Yamhill, reception Friday November 12, 6-8pm.

Working on more landscapes in acrylic, experimenting with adding collage as texture, some small studies of reflections and some larger and brighter to cheer me up on gray days. If the drizzle lets up, I'm going outside in search of Fall color!
