Water scapes

Selections from my "waterscapes", in oil and acrylic, will be on display at the Bread and Ink Cafe on Southeast Hawthorne and 36th, Portland.  My paintings from the last few years have focused on creeks, rivers, ponds, ocean, anything with water, which there is plenty of in the Northwest!  Shown are "Koi and Waterlilies", 16" x 20", oil, from the Japanese Garden, and "Johnson Creek Summer with Heron", also 16" x 20", in acrylic.

Rocks and water

Another of my series of 12" x 12" studies of rocks and water, this one started life as an abstract, but it reminded me of the other scenes of Johnson Creek and the creeks at the bottom of Columbia Gorge waterfalls, so it became more real.

Spring Show

Entered in the Spring Show at Oregon Society of Artists are two acrylic landscape paintings of Johnson Creek.
I recently completed the 16" x 20" above, Heron at Johnson Creek, while the lower painting, Johnson Creek at Leach Garden, is a 12" x 12" painted last summer.  My husband can see a bear in the water, can you?  The opening reception at OSA is this Sunday, March 10, 1 to 4 pm.

Plein Air

Down the trail and across the bridge over Johnson Creek, there is an old stone cabin built by John and Lilla Leach in the 1930's.  A delightful shady place to paint and enjoy the quiet sounds of the creek!  While I painted, deer ambled by.  To learn more about Leach Garden in SE Portland, see www.leachgarden.org

Creek

I've been to several locations on the Johnson Creek watershed lately, painting, sketching, taking photos, observing birds, dogs and people at play, enjoying the beauty in the heart of Portland.  At Leach Botanical Garden, the trail winds gently down and across a bridge.  This painting is from a photo taken close to the creek.  It's cool on a hot summer day!

TIDEMAN JOHNSON CREEK

This is my painting done plein air at Tideman Johnson Creek, to be submitted for the Johnson Creek Art Show at Umpqua Bank in Sellwood, on Friday October 1st 6-9 pm.

SELLWOOD SHOWS

I'm participating in several events in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland this month.

On Saturday, September 18, I will be painting plein air along with Marcia VanderSchaaf at the Love Art! Gallery in Sellwood near antique shops and Oaks Park between 11:00 and 1:00 pm. If you're an artist, come and join us! If you love art, come and join us! There will be music, too, and the gallery is filled with wonderful things, inside and out. Love Art! is located at 8036 SE 13th Ave., Portland, OR 97202, see www.facebook.com/LoveArtGallery.

Also this month, I'm painting at several locations along the Johnson Creek watershed to raise awareness of this natural resource flowing through Portland. The Johnson Creek Watershed Council is hosting a one day exhibit of plein air paintings at Umpqua Bank in Sellwood on Friday, October 1st 6-9 pm. Umpqua Bank is located at 7831 SE 13th Ave., Portland 97202. I have recently visited Tideman Johnson Park, painting included, and hope to get to other locations in Gresham, Leach Botanical Garden, Reed Canyon and Crystal Springs. It's great to discover natural beauty to close to home and to express its inspiration.
