Day 14 & 15

Chihuahua Mix, oil 9" x 12" canvas board, $135
Don't get me wrong, I'm a cat person, not a dog person.  Don't like getting barked at or slobbered on!  But I make an exception for cute, little dogs.  Walking in the neighborhood, I came across a man with two adorable little dogs, so asked what they were.  He said "chihuahua mix", but they might have been part wiener dogs, or papillon, or just furry little mutts enjoying their walk in the sunshine.  They were so frisky, taking a photo was tricky, just got this one.

Jennifer in Torn Jeans, oil 9" x 12" canvas board $135
Lat night's painting was a remake of Jennifer, who I painted a few years ago at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's Candlelight Studio, in acrylic.  I felt that painting did not capture Jennifer's youthful beauty and wanted to try again in oil.

Candlelight studio

At the latest Candlelight session at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's studio, we had musician Ed Couture pose with his blue trombone.  Although he was not playing, the jazzy spirit came through.

portraits

Two paintings, one on brown paper, the other on canvas, of Sara at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's Candlelight Studio last Sunday.  Sara has red hair, wore a red shirt and red boots, sat on a red chair, lots of red!  I made several sketches on paper, later painted over the canvas started with another composition that included the red cowboy boots, (wish they were mine)!

Candlelight Studio

One of my favorite places for painting figures is at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's Candlelight Studio.  Our model was Kai, dressed in exotic belly dancer garb.  My first acrylic painting was on watercolor paper, then I did a portrait on 11" x 14" canvas board.

More Jadene

Continued paintings of model Jadene from Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's Candlelight studio. On top, a 6" x 12" canvas portrait. I also brought a previously painted landscape that I found a bit boring so I put Jadene in the foreground and added some Fall colors. Nothing like a redhead in a red hat to add excitement to a landscape! I'm feeling a need for Fall colors so must go out to paint plein air before rain chases away the gorgeous leaves!

Jadene

Several portraits of Jadene, a dancer, hat maker, artist and lovely model!

Radishes and Gold Jacket

On Sunday I completed two small paintings. First, a 6" x 6"still life of radishes, too beautiful to consume before painting their vibrant redness in a green bowl. Later, Nancy posed in a flashy gold jacket at the Candlelight Studio. She seemed to be channeling her inner rock star, maybe 80's era judging by the big shoulders. I painted on a 6" x 12" canvas panel. What do these two have in common: warm colors! After plein air trips to see mostly green foliage and gray skies, it was great to rediscover red!

Amy's Blues

The painting I started of Amy Henderson, of the Geezer Gallery, that I started at Janet Amundson-Splidsboel's Candlelight Studio. Continuing at my studio, I focused on the hats and the dreamy surreal fabrics around her. I was listening to the music of Fellini Film soundtracks, which added elements of whimsy. For awhile, I thought of this portrait as "Amy of the Spirits", as in "Juliet of the Spirits", but now I think of it as "Amy's Blues".
